about Mole Creek
aims & activities		The Mole Creek Caving Club is a diverse group of people who like to get underground on their days off. We go caving mostly at Mole Creek, Tasmania (Australia), but also in other cave areas in the state. We are serious about safety, ethics and conservation in our aims & activities. We enjoy introducing beginners gently to Tasmanian caving, and tend to like chocolate. We find, explore, photograph, survey and document caves, and also undertake research. MCCC welcomes visiting cavers from all over the world. We maintain a modest gear store to enable members to borrow basic caving, vertical caving and rescue equipment as well as surveying instruments, and hold a library of caving publications. We have good relations within the Australian Speleological Federation and the Australasian Cave and Karst Management Association (see links), and actively seek to collaborate with other clubs, universities, police, forestry, parks, conservation and community groups in undertaking caving, cave management, search & rescue, education, conservation and research. VISITS:

In between Launceston, Hobart, the Tarkine, Devonport and Burnie is one of the best Tasmanian caving clubs at Mole Creek, under the Great Western Tiers near Deloraine. Come by air or TT-Line. We think we have the best decorated Tasmanian caves and wilderness adventure for cavers. Mole Creek Caving Club is a real underground organisation, with ties with the Environment Association. This speleological society, or speleo group welcomes visiting cavers, potholers, caverneers, spelunkers, and troglodytes to come caving in Tasmania, potholing, caverneering, spelunking, exploring, descending and ascending in our grotty, muddy caverns and karst, in Mole Creek caves, glowworm caves, permits for restricted access caves such as Croesus, Kubla Khan Cave, Genghis Khan, Marakoopa, Lynds, Wet and El Dorado at Mayberry, South Mole Creek, Caveside, Mill Creek, Loatta, Dogs Head Hill, Lobster and Sassafras ridge. In wild country Tassie caves, MCCC uses ladders and single rope techniques, with harnesses, descenders, ascenders, carabiners, 11mm ropes, for climbing, prussiking and abseiling entrances and deeper pitches. Cavers can see speleothems include stalactites, stalagmites, dripstone decorations, flowstone floors, rimstone gour dams, helictites, erratic gypsum needle crystals, calcite spar, aragonite clusters, soda straws, rim pools, mud cracks, underground karst water springs, and cave life includes cavernicoles, troglobites, and troglophiles such as Anaspides shrimps, amphipods, Tasmanian cave spider Hickmannia troglodytes, glowworms, millipedes, centipedes, larvae, worms, beetles, fungi, owls and fish, and accidentals such as mammals, frogs and bats.
